2023 U.S. Best-Selling Construction Machinery Rankings

Since production has stabilized in 2021 and 2022, new construction equipment has become more accessible. According to the latest EDA (Exploratory Data Information) equipment financing data from Fusable, an industrial industry data platform, nearly 135,000 new construction machinery units were financed in the United States in 2023, an increase of 2.7% from the 131,262 units in 2022.

Although the sales growth rate in 2023 is lower than in 2021 and 2022, the monthly sales from August to December 2023 are higher than in the previous two years. Texas, Florida, and California have the highest number of buyers for newly financed equipment.

In the 2023 sales equipment, Caterpillar's sales accounted for 21.5% of the market share, ranking first on the list. Kubota retained the second position, while Bobcat surpassed Deere to enter third place. Komatsu remained in fifth place, consistent with its ranking in 2022. Case, Takeuchi, Volvo, New Holland, and Sany Heavy Industry ranked sixth to tenth, respectively, consistent with their positions in 2022.

Fusable's EDA data platform primarily covers compact loaders, skid steer loaders, mini track loaders, small to medium-large excavators, standard and swamp dozers, wheel loaders, backhoe loaders, articulated trucks, single and double drum rollers, motor graders, telehandlers, tracked and wheeled pavers, and concrete pavers sold through financing. Both new and used equipment sales are included.

Popular Models of Construction Machinery Equipment Sold in North America

In the statistics of these popular types of construction machinery equipment, in the new machine financing sector, the more affordable compact equipment—compact track loaders, skid steer loaders, and mini excavators—dominate. Depending on the type of machine, financed purchases account for 40% to 75% of the total sales of that type of construction machinery equipment in the United States. Although customers can also purchase equipment with cash or letters of credit, those buying high-value equipment like large bulldozers often prefer to purchase through financing means.

In October 2023, Caterpillar announced a comprehensive overhaul of its compact track loader product line, replacing the 259D3 with the new model 255, and the 279D3 and 289D3 with the model 265.

Kubota launched the new SVL75-3 at the 2023 ConExpo, replacing the SVL75-2, and it hit the market in May 2023. Although sales are continuously growing, the total sales in 2023 were not enough to enter the top ten.
