What Are the Uses of Double-Drum Cutters?

Precision Demolition of Buildings

When demolishing sensitive buildings, high requirements are imposed on vibration and contour flatness. In such cases, the "milling" process is required. Drum Cutters can accurately strip materials off in layers, and they also have a significant advantage in vibration control. Examples include milling of concrete walls and tunnel walls.

Milling of Building Foundation Pit Walls

Due to the uneven surface of pile foundations caused during pouring, precision milling is needed to meet the wall flatness requirements while ensuring no damage to the pile foundations. Using a Drum Cutter is the preferred solution for this scenario.

Municipal Trench Excavation

Municipal trench excavation is one of the most common scenarios in urban construction. The traditional technology uses breakers for direct excavation, but its drawback is that the broken block materials cannot be reused on-site, resulting in great waste of resources. In contrast, using a Drum Cutter can achieve multiple benefits:

The materials after milling are crushed materials, which can be reused for on-site backfilling.

The milled trench has neat contours, which protects non-excavated roadbeds. Meanwhile, the consistent width (from top to bottom) reduces large-area road excavation.

The construction noise of milling is much lower than that of breakers, making it friendly to nearby residents and units.

Underwater Engineering

For underwater engineering such as urban riverbed pipeline laying, port terminal expansion, and river dredging, the milling method is the optimal construction method. Its main advantages are as follows: high static efficiency of continuous milling, no need for operators to locate targets underwater, on-site backfilling of excavated crushed materials, and high milling output (since most riverbed rocks are soft rocks).

Frozen Soil Excavation

In cold northern latitude regions, frozen soil excavation is extremely difficult. Due to the high toughness of frozen soil, the efficiency of using traditional buckets and breakers is very low. Using a high-torque Drum Cutter for direct excavation can achieve remarkable results: it not only ensures high excavation output and neat contours but also allows on-site backfilling and reuse of crushed materials. This solution is widely used in winter construction in Russia.

Tunnel Driving

Tunnel excavation has extremely high requirements for the neatness of the contour surface, and over-excavation and under-excavation should be avoided as much as possible. Drum Cutters are very suitable for use in surrounding rock grades 3 to 5. Their main advantages include high excavation output, high safety, and maximum avoidance of over-excavation and under-excavation, which play a crucial role in ensuring construction progress and controlling costs.
